How this calculator works

The calculator uses the active payroll configuration for the selected tax year. Undergraduate repayments are calculated on income above the threshold for the selected Plan 1, 2, 4 or 5. A Postgraduate Loan can be modelled separately and added to the undergraduate deduction.

How to use it

  1. Enter annual salary and expected bonus.
  2. Select the undergraduate loan plan that applies, or choose none.
  3. Choose whether a Postgraduate Loan also applies.
  4. Review the annual and average monthly deductions.
  5. Use the income comparison table to see how repayments change as salary rises.

Assumptions and limitations

This is an annualised planning estimate for employment income. Real payroll deductions are calculated by pay period and can differ with bonuses, irregular earnings, multiple jobs, refunds or direct-debit arrangements. It does not estimate interest on the outstanding loan balance or whether the loan will be written off.
